Minister pledges support in Miss Rwanda selection exercise
The minister for Sports and Culture Hon. Protais Mitali has revealed the government’s relentless efforts in ensuring that the task of Miss Rwanda selection runs smoothly.
The minister was speaking at the first provincial pre-selections exercise that kicked off in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province ahead of the finals which will take place in Kigali in February 2014.
Speaking to the congregation that had graced the event the minister Mitali assured the public that his ministry would play an active role to make sure the annual exercise would get the due recognition it deserves.
He said, “My ministry is fully committed to making sure that the annual Miss Rwanda selection exercise is a success.” He also warned against those who want to tarnish its image as a platform for cultural erosion, terming them ignorant.
Colombe Akiwacu took the first place, while Ruth Uwera and Yvonne Mukayuhi emerged as first and second runners up respectively. The exercise will see three beauty queens from each province and Kigali city come to battle it out in the capital next year.
It’s the third time since 1994 that Miss Rwanda is being organized. Bahati Grace who won the crown in 2009 was succeeded by the reigning beauty queen Umutesi Aurore.
This year’s panel of judges consists of Mike Karangwa, a renowned showbiz journalist, Jolie Murenzi who specializes in cinema related projects and Wilson Muyenzi from Workforce Development Authority (WDA).
