Fashion Tips on How to Wear Fall Pastels
If the sheer number of baby pinks and chalky blues on the fall runways was any indication, pastels will be making a big statement this fall. At the Céline, Rochas and Carven shows, among many others, designers sent out a startling array of garments in colors straight out of the nursery. There were boxy pullovers, just-below-the-knee skirts and, most unexpectedly, all manner of coats — tailored, mannish and often oversize. But, come September, how do you pull off sugary pastels without looking like an artisanal ice cream sundae?
For accessories, here are some ideas. A bag in dark green, like this new duffel shape from Reece Hudson, or in gray, will make a pretty fall complement. These slip-ons from Stella McCartney with a tortoiseshell block heel are divine, and oxfords are good, too. (There’s a suggestion of prep to pastels, after all.) And rose gold jewelry, like these barbed-wire earrings from Rodarte or the Miansai cuffs, adds a bit of toughness. Sweet, but not too sweet.
