Rwanda : Keen selection of shoes to wear with maxi skirts for your interest
In Rwanda, maxi skirts like maxi dresses are an item for many especially youth who love pairing it with tank tops and cropped cardigans. Women too wear them a lot especially in weekends and on work days to some depending on how they dress it up.
For some women, maxi skirts and dresses are only relevant when they hear it’s on trend but to many, maxi skirts have a place in their wardrobes. Maxi skirts like the dresses are relaxing but wearing them with one type of shoes over and over again creates a boring look.
The great thing is that maxi dresses and skirts are far more versatile than you might think. In addition to the fact that they work with a wide variety of tops and shoes, they also work well in any season depending on the material. Cotton maxi skirts are the most popular and in many colours plain or with prints.
In all markets and boutiques of Kigali city and in the city outskirts, maxi skirts are available in new or used clothes. Cheap for the many to afford, the used ones are the cheapest especially in big markets like nyabugogo.
Maxi skirts differ from maxi dresses simply because they are skirts not dresses but the same rules will apply to both when it comes to the right shoes to pair them with.
“I see people pairing these skirts with same accessories for the maxi dresses; cropped jackets or sweaters, long earings and mostly sandles,” says Harriet Mbabazi, shopkeeper at New style boutique in Giporoso-Remera.
Here are shoes to wear with maxi skirts
For a casual look, wear your maxi skirt with sandals that will compliment and not compete with it. Decorated sandals work better. If your maxi skirt isn’t very complex for example solid color or in simple shape, then let your sandals determine the vibe of the whole outfit.
Wedge sandals are a warm-weather favorite, and even though they can be difficult to pull off with certain mid-length and longer skirts, they actually work really well with maxi skirts and dresses because the additional length helps to balance the heft of wedge heels.
Maxi Skirts and Heels
There aren’t really too many heels that don’t work with maxi skirts especially when it comes to high-heeled sandals. Chunky heels, ankle straps, wedges, stilettos, strappy sandals all work great, as long as they are well-suited to the style of the skirt in question.
As far as heeled pumps go, certain toe shapes tend to work better than others. For example, open, pointy and peep-toes are generally more flattering with maxi skirts than round toed pumps.
Avoid full-coverage flats, low heeled clogs and sneakers if you are wearing a maxi skirt or a dress. To be sure you are getting the most out of those long skirts and dresses, be sure to pair them with the right shoes.
